Richmond Jets U21A Are Provincial Champions
After a successful weekend filled with a roller coaster of emotions and intensity, the Richmond Jets U21 A1 team has clinched the provincial banner. After a long 6 months filled with highs and lows, the team entered the weekend with an overall record of 26-2-3. The team had a rough start Saturday evening dropping the first game with a score of 4-3 in a nail-biting finish, but the team bounced back the next morning and evened the series at 1 game apiece with a commanding 8-1 victory over Victoria. Game 3 started off exactly how game 1 did with the Jets going down 3-0 early heading into the 1st intermission. Following a hot start in the 2nd and a quick goal provided by Lucas Thompson-Fiddes, the Jets rallied and dominated the 2nd. Marcus Angeles continued the momentum and struck quick off a pass from Chad Lore and an incredible solo effort by Serge Boyajian tied the game up at 3 apiece. With 5 mins left in the period and a penalty by Victoria, the Jets went on the power play and it was none other than the Captain, Michael Gill who put the Jets up by 1. A timely goal by Tyler Barns on an odd-man rush put the Jets up by 2 going into the 2nd intermission. The 3rd period was a one-sided affair with the Jets holding it down defensively and putting it all on the line. Victoria went on the power play with 3 mins left and a pulled goalie gave them a 2-man advantage but it wasn’t enough as Jora Bains sent a Hail Mary backhand down the ice and into the empty net to seal the win. Final score 6-3 and the Jets are reigned victorious.
