Richmond Jets U15 A1 Win CAN/AM Youth Challenge Cup in Seattle
The Richmond Jets U15 A1 Rep hockey team found the pot of gold in a thrilling final at the CAN/AM Youth Challenge Cup series in Seattle, Washington, from November 25 – 27.
The Jets got off to a hot start in the tournament beating the Seattle Jr Admirals 6-1, and TriValley Bulls of California 3-1 in the round-robin portion of the tournament. Outstanding goaltending from the tandem of D’Angelo Brual and Jagger Rigby, with two goals each from Benny Rustia, Jake Gustafson, Kyan Gosal and singles from Jayden Hamir, Dylan Thomas and Jack Triance paced the Jets to first place after day one
The Richmond team then met the Portland Winterhawks in their final round-robin game and, despite an early lead, lost 4-2. This set up an early morning final against the Winterhawks on Sunday.
Once again, the Jets found the back of the net early and took a 2-0 lead with goals from Jack Triance and Kyan Gosal. Portland would not go down easy and came back to tie the game late in regulation. This set up an overtime situation with a 3-on-3 format. The Jets Dylan Thomas was able to enter the Portland zone, running a give-and-go with defenseman Kyler Tang then snapped a quick shot past the Portland keeper. A 4-3 final, and the gold medals were coming north of the border! Thomas received the game puck as well as the MVP for the game.
Led by coaches Kamesh Goundar and Kenta Muraki, the Jets look to continue working hard in the PCAHA Flight 2 division.
