Midget C2 Wins The Ice Breaker Tournament
The Richmond Jets Midget C2 team had an outstanding weekend during the annual November Icebreakers tournament eventually winning the Midget A final. The tournament started with an intensive, high speed game against a strong Whistler team which ended in a 2-2 draw. Richmond C2 rose to the occasion in their second round robin game with a 8-0 win over the Tacoma Rockets. For the third round robin game, Richmond C2 played an excellent Burnaby team that had a 5-2 lead at the beginning of the third period. After clawing back to tie the game with a couple of minutes remaining, Richmond C2 realized that they needed a win to advance to the A semi-final. So with that in mind, Richmond C2’s coach, Sean Harrington, decided to pull the goalie in a tie game. The team responded with Nathan Chu scoring the winner with 3 second left in the game. What a memorable victory!
Richmond C2 went into the A semi-final against an intimidating Victoria team. The game was close but Richmond C2 prevailed to win it 4-1. For the final, Richmond C2 played the same Whistler team that they tied at the beginning of the tournament. After Richmond C2 scored in the first period, the game became a battle of the goaltenders. Richmond C2’s goalie, Ali Keshvani, had an outstanding game and managed to shut the door on Whistler preserving the 1-0 lead into a shutout victory. Richmond C2 played hard the entire game and the coaches managed to find the right motivation for the team to succeed. Congratulations to the Richmond Jets Midget C2 for winning the Midget A final.
