Richmond Jets U11A2 Silver Finalists in Kamloops Rivercity Tournament
The Richmond Jets U11A2 Rep hockey team took on the River City Faceoff Tournament this past weekend (November 25-27) in Kamloops, British Columbia.
The Jets got off to a strong start in the tournament, winning their first matchup against the North Vancouver MHA U11A3 team,19-0. Day 2 started bright and early with a matchup against the Penticton Dev team, where the Jets came together as a team, pulling a 10-2 victory. Playing a second game on Day 2, the Richmond team met their match against the Arbutus MHA U11A1 team. Despite their best efforts, the Jets lost 6-1 in this round-robin game.
Winning 2 of their 3 round-robin games earned them a spot in the semi-finals. On the final day of gameplay, the Jets took on the hometown Kamloops Jr Blazers in the Semifinals. It was a tightly contested matchup, both teams showed up to play hoping to secure their spot in the Finals but the Jets ultimately ended up on top, advancing to the gold medal game. Superb goaltending by Nick Zhang and two goals from Brandon Quan, and a single from David Pavlov secured the deal by winning 3-1.
The Jets met the Arbutus MHA U11A1 team in the Finals but ultimately succumbed to the Arbutus team again. The Jets U11A2 team competed and supported each other to the very end. They faced lots of adversity throughout the weekend but ultimately fought their way through, exemplifying what it means to be a Richmond Jet. The team is led by Head Coach Matt Leduc and Assistant Coaches Jora Bains and Andrew Wolf. They look forward to the rest of the season in the PCAHA Flight 2 Division.
