Coach Ray Hung
The definition of “volunteer”, according to the Cambridge Dictionary is “a person who does something, especially helping other people, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it”.
Coach Ray Hung is the epitome of “volunteer”.
There are seasons when everything comes together – a fabulous player group, a terrific parent group and a strong group of coaches. This season, the Midget MC3 team has been blessed by all three.
And, credit goes to Coach Ray Hung for setting the tone and creating an environment where every player feels valued and included.
Coach Ray not only has a son who plays on the Midget A1 team (where he volunteers his time), he has also undertaken to coach the Midget C3 and Atom C3 teams. At the start of this season, the Jets association found themselves short of coaching volunteers and were faced with the possibility of having to turn players away. Coach Ray took it upon himself to help out in a big way and made the commitment to lead two teams.
When polled, the players described Coach Ray with the following words: passionate, dedicated, fair, amazing, fun and committed. Most of our players have seen a lot of hockey in their 15, 16 and 17 years. And most have competing priorities – school, work and other sports. That Coach Ray has been able to elicit a level of commitment and team play at this stage is commendable.
By treating all of our players and their families with respect and by leading by example, Coach Ray has created a community of engagement. We have had willing volunteers from all of our families to help out where they can.
With the end of the season in sight, we wanted to reflect on and acknowledge the incredible commitment of time and energy that Coach Ray has given to our team, and to the Richmond Jets.
Three cheers (and our deepest appreciation) for Coach Ray!
